The Automation Engineer plays a crucial role in leading and coordinating projects related to Automation, Aseptic processing, and new or modified facility constructions. This position ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet set objectives. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Automation Engineer helps achieve design specifications and project targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe delivery and setup of processing equipment according to specified timelines and objectives, including autoclaves, LAF units, extruders, packaging systems, and more.
  • Manage the installation of equipment and integration of services, collaborating with vendors and engineering staff.
  • Either lead or assist the Project Manager in the Factory Acceptance Testing program.
  • Handle all documentation related to equipment.
  • Oversee the commissioning of equipment for validation purposes.
  • Develop training and maintenance protocols for new equipment.
  • Provide regular updates on project status to the Project Manager, offering insights and support to achieve project outcomes.
  • Engage in technical problem-solving related to product manufacturing, aseptic filling, and packaging.
  • Drive process improvement projects and collaborate with Business Unit leaders to explore new improvement opportunities.
  • Lead routine project review meetings concerning equipment and facility projects.
  • Participate in weekly Tier Meetings, monthly Department Meetings, and monthly one-on-one meetings with your supervisor.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in Automation.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the medical device or biopharmaceutical industry is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Project management experience is beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Independent and proactive, capable of fulfilling project needs with minimal supervision.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proven teamwork skills, along with strong organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Experience in process and equipment-related projects is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with GxP regulatory standards is preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing systems is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in the Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and an understanding of PLC and SCADA systems is preferred.
  • Flexibility to address production issues during non-standard hours.
  • A keen ability to adapt to and learn new technologies.
