Staff R&D/Product Development Engineer – Balloons (Extrusion & Forming)
Location: Galway, Ireland

This is an exciting opportunity for a Staff R&D/Product Development Engineer with expertise in extrusion and forming of balloons to lead cutting-edge product development projects, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive technology advancement from concept through to commercialisation.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and grow capabilities within the Polymers Extrusion team, focused on balloon extrusion and forming technologies.
Spearhead the design, procurement, and qualification of tooling, fixtures, and capital equipment used in manufacturing processes.
Apply advanced knowledge of thermoset polymer materials and forming techniques to optimise product design and performance.
Partner with R&D, Operations, and Quality teams to translate design criteria into robust, scalable manufacturing solutions.
Develop and implement equipment, process, and measurement strategies to support the launch of innovative balloon technologies.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using root cause analysis, NCM (Non-Conforming Material), and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) processes.
Manage technical projects and provide leadership to cross-functional teams, ensuring timelines, budgets, and objectives are met.
Train, mentor, and guide Operators and Technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and technical growth.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or product development environment.
Hands-on experience in extrusion, injection moulding, or related polymer processing techniques is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor technical staff.
Strong problem-solving mindset with proficiency in statistical analysis and data-driven decision making.
Self-motivated and collaborative, with a drive to innovate and implement practical solutions.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in direct or indirect technical leadership roles.
Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols considered an asset.
Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification is advantageous.
Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems is a plus.
