Systems Technician | Manufacturing Automation | Athlone, Ireland

HERO Recruitment is seeking a skilled Systems Technician to join our client, a leading manufacturer located in Athlone, Ireland. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in supporting production, implementing automation solutions, and maintaining a competitive edge.

About the Role:

  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Design and implement strategic system upgrades to enhance manufacturing efficiency and productivity.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for new production lines, encompassing control systems, data collection, robotics, and communication technologies.
  • Uphold strict adherence to cGMP regulations within your area of responsibility.
  • Champion compliance initiatives and maintain regulatory best practices.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and project discussions.
  • Provide technical support for engineering projects and lead assigned tasks for the systems group.

Your Skills and Expertise:

  • Certified Electrician or hold a relevant degree/diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Mechatronics.
  • Proven experience with PLC programming, motion control systems, sensors, in-line vision systems (especially Cognex), barcode systems, and network topology.
  • Proficiency in PC skills, PC application software, and possess systematic troubleshooting/problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working within a high-volume automation or plant control environment, including SCADA, Allen Bradley (Control Logix & PLC 5), Siemens, or similar PLCs and programming.
  • Prior experience within a GMP regulated environment is a must.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley Controllogix5000 and PLC5 programming, ControlNet/DeviceNet, Visual Basic applications, motion control programming (Sercos, AB, Emerson, Lenze), and barcode systems (SICK, DVT).
  • Knowledge of equipment and software validation (IQ, OQ, and PQ) processes.
  • Familiarity with FDA regulations, including 21CFR Part 11 (Electronic records, electronic signatures) and Part 820 (Quality system regulation).
