Join a cutting-edge life sciences team transforming healthcare through innovative automation! We’re hiring a Staff Automation Controls Engineer to support high-speed filling and packaging operations at our state-of-the-art facilities in County Clare, Ireland and Europe
About the Role
As a Staff Automation Controls Engineer, you’ll lead the design, development, programming, and validation of advanced automation systems. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams, as well as external vendors, to deliver robust and compliant equipment solutions — from concept through commissioning and validation.
- Lead specification, installation, and validation of automation and control systems.
- Design and program PLC (Rockwell/Siemens), HMI, and SCADA for new and existing lines.
- Implement advanced automation strategies involving motion control, robotics, and vision systems.
- Troubleshoot complex automation challenges and minimize downtime.
- Oversee system integration, IQ/OQ/PQ validation, and ensure regulatory compliance (GMP, FDA, ISO).
- Collaborate with equipment vendors for installations, upgrades, and ongoing support.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of automation and controls experience in regulated manufacturing (e.g., medical devices, pharma, biotech).
- Expertise in PLC programming (Rockwell/Siemens) and HMI development.
- Strong background in servo motion, robotics, and vision systems.
- Proven ability to create User Requirement Specifications (URS) and execute validation (IQ, OQ, PQ).
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%, supporting our German operations.
