About the Role

The Mechanical Technician will be an integral part of the Mechanical & Test team, providing vital support in a wide range of activities, from design verification and validation to reliability testing and root cause analysis. The role is hands-on and offers the chance to work with state-of-the-art equipment while making a meaningful impact on the development of life-changing medical devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory and Project Support: Assist with fixture development, testing, and reporting. Contribute to the documentation of test results and support ongoing projects.
  • Execution of Day-to-Day Tasks: Conduct analytical testing on medical devices to generate data that enhances product design and supports design verification.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Help in the creation of product development documentation, including test methods, test protocols, and test reports.
  • Data Management: Maintain precise data records, prepare reports, and communicate technical challenges with solutions to the team.
  • Laboratory Equipment: Assist in the installation, validation, and maintenance of R&D laboratory equipment.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Participate in technical review meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive progress on project activities.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or a similar field, either through an apprenticeship or third-level education. You should have hands-on experience in an R&D environment and be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, including analytical balances, pressure sensors, and Instron UTM, will be advantageous. Additionally, you should be proficient in standard office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and possess excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with all levels of technical and management teams.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Qualification: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or similar (apprenticeship or third-level education).
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience in an R&D environment is desirable.
  • Laboratory Skills: Experience with laboratory equipment such as analytical balances, vernier calipers, micrometers, pressure sensors, and Instron UTM.
  • Software Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independence and Time Management: Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
